There
were various events in the village during a year. Access to the village
is very bad without any public transportation, but many people come and
go. I could see a bit of the events which mark the stages of their lives. |

Legal marriage to
register at the mairie is not very common. This picture shows marriage
ceremony between families of bridal couple, where the family of the man
gave alcohol and money to woman's family and all of the participants approve
their marriage. This often happens after they lived long together . |

Circumcisional
festivals are mostly held in July and August. All the boys from this region
have to go through this ceremony. The age is not decided: It ranged from
9 to 15 years old boys. This is called Likinda, which is a significant
event to boy's family. Families and relatives prepare a lot of food and
alcohol to please people. To villagers, irrespective of age or sex, it
is very enjoyable festivals which they can drink and dance. In 2004, 62
boys have become adults in total. Sorry for very bad video quality but you can pick up on the atmosphere of Likinda with sound. (Windows MediaPlayer) |
